I picked up this oil pan from another member a couple years ago and i am going to put it on my new engine. it looks like a 231 pan but i am not sure...

wondering if i need to modify it any before installing. i have checked and it does fit but i am worried about the metal plate interfearing with something. also i don't know what the other plate is for if anything!

    here are the pics:

The one inside is for oil control. The idea is basically to keep the oil around the pickup. Never seen the other one, maybe someone else can help.
I recently put a new 231 on my Jeep, it is a 85 instead of the old 84, and the oil pan had 20 bolts instead of 14. I couldn't get the pan on with the motor installed due to interference with the pickup and that oil control baffle. I ended up trimming the baffle just enough to be able to install the pan. Not the ideal but I wasn't going to pull the motor just to install the pan.

that sounds like it could be a problem... i went ahead and put the pan on as-is since i *shouldn't* have to remove the pan anytime soon. i still don't know (or care at this point) what that other piece is for so it will sit in my parts box until i need it.

    thanks, chris
