I've got a relative that has a 1978 CJ5 he wants to sell me for $300. I'm thinking it's a great deal, but wondering if finding a replacement motor or parts will be hard. Below are the specs.:

title, never wrecked, complete soft top (a little ragged), full roll cage, good tires, frame is solid, body is rough but repairable, manual steering, 304 V8 bad (missing oil pan), 3 speed, and the rest is typical of a jeep that has set for 4 years.

Story has it that the owner drove it a lot. Around town, and out on the farm. Something happen to the motor and it was parked. Henceforth a divorce followed and he had to get rid of it.

I'm thinking this sounds like a good restoration project. Especially since it has a title.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Dave

If you can't find a reasonable 304 (which shouldn't be too hard) a 258 or later fuel injected 4.0L would be a relatively easy swap.

Parts for this will be a heckuva easier to find than for an Early 5. ;)

    Go for it!

I can't imagine a part on this Jeep that can't be bought new. The 304 is a good engine and is not that expensve to rebuild.

$300, I would think if you bought it and didn't like it you could part it out and get your money back pretty easily.
