    for the record, i have the absolute cheapest auto dark hood HF offers, and it's served me fine. of course, i don't weld professionally but for the occasional job it works great, and was quite cheap.

    I kept getting flashed by my cheap hf hood. Just a split second before it would engage but it's enough. Cornwall had a sale and I picked one up. It was on sale for about $120 maybe 8 years ago but performs much better.
    You'd be surprised how bad the hf ones work once you use a better helmet.
