You can do that with the Supertop too.
I did this in Utah because the sun was killing me.

I do run the full in the winter, and have taken the zipper parts off too for summer. But the issue with mine is the roll bar prevents the top bars from folding down to the back to take top off to get windshield down. So I either leave the the one bar resting on the roll bar or pull the whole thing apart. I tried leaving it resting on the roll bar but it’s just too tempting to rear seat passengers to grab it to hold on, pull themselves up and generally use it in ways is should not. By rear passengers, I mean the two 8 year old grand boys. And we are now raising one of them. I warned him to leave it alone or I’d cut off some fingers but the wife got pretty pissed after I cut the first one off. Geeze it was just the pinky anyways. NOT REALLY! Then I have never been able to put the front lip in or out without sledding it through the side. Due mainly to the hood standoffs. For awhile I even would just roll the top up under the windshield between the glass and hood, until it kept leaving red paint rubs on the top and messing up the old paint. So now the whole thing becomes a pain to put the window down let alone back up in a hurry. But that’s just my experience. The custom long bikini with the military bows is probably the better way for me.

Now I understand your problem, mine has the newer style windshield without the hood standoffs (see pic above), so it's pretty easy to attach the top to the windshield. Also, my top bows pass over the roll bar, sounds like yours is taller than normal.

I run like that all summer long with the Supertop on the '71 but I keep the back window in because we live in the land of dust. The rear window keeps a big chunk of the dust from rolling in the the back.

It's basically the old military sytle "summer top". Ignore the silly dog:

I have to say about 10 minutes over 25mph is enough for me and the windshield goes back up.

I love running around the property with the windoshield down though:

A day or so on the Rubicon at 4 mph will cure the desire to fold the windshield up.

Here is mine and as you can see that rear roll bar catches the one Bestop bar. I wanted some protection for the rea passengers is why it come up tall, but I didn’t realize the issue of it catching. But it is what it is. When I get it home this spring, I’ll test the military bar before I make the next move. Notice the top under the windshield, rubbing paint, etc.
