Alignment Specs

I have a 1975 CJ 5 with about 3 inches of lift between lift kit, shackles and a body lift. I need to realign everything after putting in a new tie rod and drag link. Do I need to make any adjustments to the standard alignment specs?

 

I dont remember standard specs but most of us have had good luck with a slight lift going to 5-6 degrees caster. For the life of me I cant if it was positive or negative. Hope someone else will check in that has done it more recently than I did.

 

Yes, 5-6 degrees of postitive caster is good for on road stability. This can be adjusted with wedges between the axle and the spring. You can get them here: https://www.wfoconcepts.com/c-13931...products-axle-shims-1-75-inch-axle-shims.html

The normal toe-in setting is 1/8" between the front and rear of the stock sized tires. If you have taller tires, a little less than 1/8" will get you the same actual degrees of toe-in.

 

Please stick with steel shims, not aluminum or cast. You will thank all of us for it.

For what it's worth, according to NTB when I got my 75 realigned.

Camber: 1.0 degrees to 2.0 degrees
Caster:2.0 degrees to 4.0 degrees
Toe: 0.00 degrees to 0.12 degrees

I ended up 6 degree steel shims from WFO.

 

Just curious, if you raise the lift on a 73 would you shim both front and rear axle? I have added 2.5 inches of lift with the new springs and the drive shaft and
gle seems a bit more than it should be but not sure.

 

Most likely the rear will need shims for the driveshaft angle and the front for improved caster. Even with shims in the rear I had to install a double cardan driveshaft. In the front, I added 6 degree shims (for a 7-8 degree total) because the Jeep would get real squirly over 45 MPH.

 

I have never had to shim a rear axle. I have used a shim spacer on a transfer case for a TJ to help with rear driveline angles.
