I've never seen a loaded Waggy that didn't have a 360 in it.

Yep, in Calif we lost the V8 starting in 1981 due to smog regulations.
    So we had a 110HP 258 engine in a 4200 lb car.
The V8 re-appeared in mid 1983 model year, but only in the Grand Wagoneer limited model..
It was then still avaialable thru the remainder of the FSJ run.
But 81 thru mid 83 was hard on dealers trying to sell vehicles that could only pull boats.....

1981 was also the start of 258 serpentine belt w/ reverse rotation water pump ONLY in Ca.
If you were from Calif and suffered a water pump failure out of state under warranty, how many
49 state dealers did you think would stock the Ca water pump and visa versa ?

The old 66 Wagoneer we had had a 327 in it. Wonder if this would even get out of its own way. It has to be underpowered.

X2, Never knew the full-trimmed model ever got a 258. I only saw 360s in them. A neighbor bought a stripped basic ‘82 Wagoneer brand new with a 258/automatic. It didn’t have enough power to take out in the soft/deep sand on the beach. Less than a year old, it had an engine fire out on the beach from running so hot. A trans line melted and fluid ignited on the hot exhaust..

It's the Fozzy Bear shag carpet and wood-grain rear spoiler that really do it for me. I just wanna snuggle in there and listen to Rick Springfield on the radio.

Put an LS in it. Call it a rest-mod or whatever even though no resto appears to be needed. Send the 258 to Nate. :D

    Update
    Sold for $20k
That would be a sweet ride if the 258 were pulled and a Hemi 392 installed in it's place.

Never liked the look of the factory brush guard on a Wagoneer, especially a Grand.
But I did have one on my 1981 J-10 stepside.
    Anyways, very solid vehicles.
Good price for the seller too.

I kind of lost interest with the advent of the square headlights. Goes for the trucks too. But more for the wagons.

I like the quad square headlights on the 1980 Dodge Shortbed 1/2 ton Powerwagon I owned for 20 years. It was one of the few
rectangular headlights I liked. Too bad the plastic dash crumbled in to dust and it got got poor gas mileage. I made too many jeep
trails in to Dodge trails with it as I slowly built my Jeep. Image though not as nice.
