Happy New Year everyone! I am working on positioning the TDI/T18/D18 combo in my A1 so I can begin to fab up a trans crossmember and engine mounts. Can someone let me know the stock F134 crank centerline to inner driver's side framerail measurement? Thanks for the help.

11 1/4 from the inside of the drivers side frame to the center of the crank. 15" from the inside face of the passenger side frame on the 3b in front of me.

134’s were always set 1-1/2” to left of the frame centerline.
Dauntless was always set 3/4” left of the frame centerline.

Now I gotta go measure mine.. I have a feeling my Dauntless is in a 134 frame, my offset seems a whole lot more than 3/4"!

If cj-5/6 Dauntless frame brackets are installed then the v-6 will automatically be correct concerning left to right positioning.
I don’t know the ideal left/ right positioning for a Volkswagen engine. But I do know that it’s always best to build a custom rear engine support
(crossmember) for any and all engine-transmission retrofits.

I certainly would not bother to modify a standard crossmember for any retrofit with 1 exception.
That would be installing the T-98-A behind a 134.

Interestingly, it looks like the TDI will fit very nicely using the factory F134 driver's side offset. It should ensure plenty of oil pan clearance to the front differential housing, and also plenty of room for the turbo and its associated plumbing on the passenger side.

A previous owner attempted to reuse the factory crossmember with the T18 by using a cobbled together mess of plates and spacers. The same could be said for the trans/bellhousing adapter. Even with my limited fabrication skills and tools, starting over was the best move.

It would be interesting to know where the Perkins diesel lay.
