So I started this project recently with the purchase of a rebuild kit from Novak and everything looks good except for the 3/4 synchronizer brass cone. This is the thinner one on the rear side of the clutch gear. I measured the teeth on the new cone at .1100 and .1320 on the two original cones I have from the two trannys I’ve disassembled. The cones are the same thickness but the teeth are not resulting in a gap between the teeth and the clutch gear. I will be calling Novak today but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? More pics and words to follow on the build
    Thanks!
    Todd

I know the Warner T-18 and Muncie SM420 are completely different. However, they each had very long production runs. Don't be surprised if some internal changes occurred during that time.
When I overhauled my T-18, I quickly learned about a few minor and major differences. For example, there's an early and late model 2nd gear synchronizer (cone). While they can be interchanged during assembly, they will not function properly in the gearbox.
Be sure any new part you install matches dimensionally and all physical features are the same as what came out. Good luck.

Yeah I’m guessing I got a wrong part. Hopefully Novak can clarify the issue. Thanks for th link Chris. I’ve read through that a few times. I’ve got an early version trans so I’m wondering if I got a cone for a middle version.
This is a very easy to work on unit. It’s a bit bigger than the t14 and sagi 4 speed I’ve worked on but really not hard. Since I don’t have a press I’m going to have to make my own to press on the brass bushing on the main shaft and the clutch gear

Talked with Novaks tranny builder today I explained the situation and he said no problems with the new brass synchro design and that head has used that style without any issues. So off to the races this weekend! Hope to get it back together
