Back in Jan ‘22 I bought several WIX 51010 filters so I would always have some on the shelf. On Amazon I paid $8.98 for WIX brand and it came with both the gasket AND the plug copper ring. I just used it today to change Willy's oil for the year. So I went to reorder and Amazon now has them at $20.15. So I check several others and the price at fleet places and Rock Auto seem to ge back in $9-11 but they don’t say whether or not they come with the copper plug ring. Where do you guys get yours?

Maybe I shouldn't admit this but I don't recall ever once in my life replacing the copper washer, and maybe not the gasket either.

????? Gasket? The one on the filter? Don't all oil filters come with that?

Copper plug ring? The one on the drain plug? Never saw that included with an oil filter and like Pete, I don't think I've replaced one that didn't get lost.

I bought an engine last year. It came with a dozen of these filters, so I won't have to buy one for a while. (y)

I stopped using the fram for some reason that eludes me now, maybe it was availability. I recall there were 2 sizes for these, I think military version was a little bigger. Is the C3P the correct one for the F134 civilian?

I’ve used both. The c3p has a paper body that some don’t like. The wix is metal.

According to Fram's site, they show both the C3 and C3P as correct. In the pics they look different at the top, any ideas what the real difference is?

I've always wondered about the difference too. It says the C3P is heavy duty but how to tell the real difference in something that small?

Well, had to get a new battery today before I could start Willy up. The mountain cold finally killed it after 5 years. I remembered on my initial engine startup I did not have the oil filter top screwed down quite tight enough and oil spraying everywhere making one hell of a mess. Every since that time, I always make sure the cap is definitely snugged down. Well today, it sprayed. I tightened. It sprayed again. I pulled it off to check the gasket and tightened it and again it sprayed. I checked again and tightened it and spray. So I dug the prior gasket out of the trash and a normal tighten and no spray. I did compare and it looked pretty close but obviously there was. The lesson is to make sure it really matches before trashing it, otherwise you end up digging thru the local garbage bin. Now an engine compartment to clean.

If you actually get a good one to begin with yeah, don't let it get away.

I noticed this also. Napa wants crazy money for the WIX now. I ended up getting a K&N for the same price from Autozone and I get my rewards credit.

We have a couple Farmall Cubs that we mow with they use a similar style filter and I picked one up last week at CarQuest and it was right around $20.00 with tax and no gasket it's a quality filter from Baldwin but I got a Napa Gold "Wix" in the spring with a gasket for around $11.00 , I bought the Napa on my buddies account so that might be the difference.TJ

I service a few riding John Deere riding mowers every spring......
The JD oil filters are 3-5 dollars cheaper then what I can buy Wix, with my former employer discount, which is a steep discount........

I decided to order a Fram to see the difference in person. Here are the pics and it does fit in the filter bowl. The fram is a paper case around the sides vs the WIX which is metal. But as you can see in the pic, the metal can be distorted too. Both seem to fit the same. As for the gasket, the Fram is slightly bigger and paper so you have to be careful putting it in but that may prevent that lack of sealing issue I had before on the CJ.
