I, like many people, have dozens of things I am bad at, but today I had the opportunity to find out what I am the worst at: adhesive caulk. I can actually use caulk adequately in the bathroom.

    I used this product:

    and got this result:

Anybody have an idea how to solve this without a sandblaster? Paint was going to go on tomorrow. :banghead:

Laquer thinner should take off the excess. Don't worry about removing all of it. Just go over what is there.
For exposed seams, I would use painters tape to define the area. Caulk, wipe, pull tape and finger it in one
more time. I am terrible with caulking.

smooth the edges and spray it... thinner may help but may affect the primer.

This is a perfect example of why you should invent the time machine before starting a Jeep project.

(so you can go back and do it right)

When I do stuff like this I lay the bead on carefully pushing the gun in the direction of travel with the tip hard up against the surfaces, that way the tip & application pressure force the sealant into the gap & the excess forms a row on either side of the tip that can easily be removed with our thumbnail as it's setting up.
