Took the tranny and transfer case apart today. On the tranny the front maindrive gear bearing had some play in it and the cluster gear is missing a tooth. In the transfercase the front output shaft gear has 2 chipped teeth.
My problem is while I got it out do I spend the big bucks and change to a twin stick on the transfer case and add an overdrive. Do I look for the set up already together? With the V-6 that may be hard. Do I find a used tranny and transfer case and chance it is good? I guessing $200 in the tranny and $900 in the transfercase (twinstick and overdrive) if I use mine.
The rear tag says I have 3.73 gears so do I need the overdrive? I can shift to 3rd at 25mph. Have not had it over 45 (due to bearing) so don't know if 65 is possable for long trips. I know if I don't do the overdrive now i will not happen.
What does it take to get a 4cyl twinstick case and overdrive to fit my T-14?
Any ideas on what to do?

to get a 4cyl twinstick and an overdrive as an assembled unit to fit your tansmission... impossible in stock form. the 4 cyls have a six spline output whereas the t-14 is a 10 spline. i'm sure there's a tranny i forgot about in there, but that;s what i remember from dong my search for a new tranny a little while back.

as for the speed, i've got the 3.73's and spent the better part of today paying with the big boys on i-75 around metro ATL today... so it can be done, but it's rather nerve racking. it will pass other cars on the interstate, so i'm guessing 75-80ish with the engine humming pretty good; an overdrive is on my wishlish. but befre you give that a try make sure the steering is in good order. min'es wandering about lanes on the highway, and with it being a flying brick and all the play in the wheel makes things even more fun than they would normally be.

I think you should rebuild what you have-that way you know what you have when you get done.
I have seen too many folks, including some here, buy used and "rebuilt" units, only to find out it was just steam cleaned and painted.
If you bought a used unit, you would probably replace the bearings, at the very least, anyway.
The o'drive is dependent on how you drive the Jeep. 3:73s are very highway friendly without the o'drive.

oh and the twin stick is a matter of personal choice, no real advantage other than accessability to the lever(s)

I drove my v6, 3.73 equipped cj to Tellico at 70 mph on the interstate for a total of about 100 miles one way and had no problwem, the motor is running somewhere around say 2600rpm, not spinning very fast at all really, you should be able to do 90 with the motor, don't know if you would like the scary factor the ride would produce but the motor will do it easily without an overdrive

cheapest swap is to swap the whole twin stick assembly from the older unit. you don't want/need the gears, just the shift rods and sticks.

Having just (almost) finished this on my 70CJ5 I would recommend rebuilding your existing t-case. I was able to get an older d18 to rob the twin stick parts off. You can get the twin stick parts from Herm. I was also able to get some used gears from Herm.

My d18 bolts to the Novak adaper going to a SM420 but I'm still using the original d18 input gear on it so it should be about the same as yours.

I would recommend this way even if you aren't able to rebuild it yourself. You could just get the parts and have a shop rebuild it.

The OD is cool but I don't think you need it w/ 3.73's.
