The limit for this ‘56 CJ5 is the F134. Even with an overdrive, or not, the Jeep is able to run 55 to 60 mph, then it hits a wall. You can pull a few more mph out of it, but it starts really straining. A couple miles, OK, but 50-60 miles of competing with the semis at 75+, that will kill the Jeep.
My F134 ‘65 with 4.27 gears and 28” tires could hit 70 mph on flat ground with a good tailwind (and several miles to get there). Literally, a headwind made this impossible.

At least in theory, a CJ powered by either 134 should be able to obtain a top speed of about 120 mph. You just need access to a 1500' cliff. Thelma and Louise style.

I agree and will also be intstalling an overdrive this winter. I have 5.38's with a t98-4speed/f-134 and 45mph is my top cruising speed. Ive had it up to 55 in short bursts when accidentally getting on the freeway for a couple exits haha. It SCREEEAMS above 50. The sound is like a tank and cars seem to stay away when really ripping down the street LOL

I once drove it to Long beach from Culver city, CA (about a 45 min drive) on the 405 freeway. going 50-55. It wasn't happy when I got there. Never again.
