    Hey All!

My Jeep makes a decent clank / clang / clunk if I engage or disengage the clutch too quickly.

I have a buick 231 with a BOP bellhousing, AA motor mounts welded to the frame rails and the stock cross-member and mounting configuration for the Transmission and transfer case. Clutch linkage is all OEM, although I replaced a few cables with heim-jointed links.
The rear axle has a lunchbox locker. Transfer case was recently rebuilt and is tight, but the transmission could use a rebuild.

I don't know if my Jeep would have had a stay cable or not from the factory as the engine was swapped out around the time I was born (1980ish), but should it?

    Thank you in advance!

The stay cable keeps the driveline out of the radiator on steep decents and helps the clutch in reverse only. This is because the mass of the driveline will be working against the clutch engagement as the vehicle accelerates in reverse.
If you are having clutch issues in all gears the stay cable or lack there of is not the issue.
Your motor and body mounts need to be in decent condition. Then start looking at if it is the clutch or something else downwind.

Its your gears/shafts in the D18 that are worn out. Mine made a CLACK when I depressed the clutch. Not always, but most of the time. I chased it forever until I rebuilt the D18. Now its 98% gone.. Could be something else too. Check motor mounts and anything that moves.

This could be the source of the noises. When I had one in my Jeep it made strange noises sometimes (and drove like crap)
