Hello and thanks for taking time to read this.

I'm putting an MB body on a 1970 CJ5 with the Dauntless. I have a new gas tank and sending unit ( MB ), since the CJ5 had the fuel pickup and return connected to the sending unit, how might I route a return to the MB tank, as it has it's pickup on the bottom of the tank, and no return?

    Thank you!

Use the drain plug as a return or,
run a line to the top of the tank and make a hole or,
Return to a T in the feed line with a long enough run for the fuel to cool. (You can use a big filter to help cool as long as it is away from the engine and exhaust)

If you have a new tank - plumb a return in the top before you put fuel in it (safer that way). You can also use a 'surge tank' type or T setup to return the fuel to the pickup line (did that for years too).

Are you deleting the rear tank or going with dual tanks?
My 71-5 has the under seat tank added without a return. The return goes to rear tank and essentially transfers the gas to the rear tank.

Thank you all for your replies!
Just using the tank under the drivers seat, and yes it's new, it's a large opening style, so make a return line hole close enough to the opening to reach in and catch any drilling chips? Or use a T fitting with a long enough run for the fuel to cool with a larger filter to cool before connecting at the T fitting into the pickup line.

    Again, thank you!
