Warn Automatic Hubs Failing?

I have a set of Warn automatic hubs on my 80 CJ-5. Recently I've noticed a loud grinding(?) sound that occurs intermittently when drivng at ;ower speeds, 20 mph or slower, perhaps. No vibration associated with the sound. Pressing the cluch or brakes in makes no difference. I tried locking the hubs manually and it doesn't seem to occur. Anyone experience this?

 

No experience with this type of problem, but maybe if you could get a hold of some drive flanges you could prove or eliminate the locking hubs.
Don’t know how much they would cost but I’m sure less than replacing your Warns.

Locking the hub manually as described basically eliminates the automatic clutch. Guess I should pull thngs apart and have a look. I spoke to Herm the Overdrive guy a couple days ago and he suggested that it may be a roller cage that is part of the automatic clutch. I'm on Kauai.

If you’re confident, then try replace them.
It sounds like they may be your problem but I would like to be sure.
You must be really taking care of that Jeep to still be in good shape in HI.
Mine was a rust bucket in 87.
