IH used the studded housing. Still good deal, can move the guts over to a standard case. I think the IH adapter clocks the 20 a little different. Don't quote me.

You can see in the pic in the ad how much more of an angle the IH adapter turns the D20 vs the jeep adapter. The top of a jeep adapter is nearly horizontal, where the top of the IH adapter is sloped down on the right.

Scout stuff is problematic (fit wise), unless you have a Scout. I have a Scout D300 t-case in my Jeep, adapted to a SM465. I want to get ride of both...
While the price seems reasonable, only so for a local (to the seller) Scout owner. My personal experience says stay away from IH parts, Jeep specific leads to way less headaches.

Curious as to why you think it's the best? What trans are you using? The adapter I currently have is almost 6" long.
I have a nos Jeep 300 that will replace it. Parts and adapters are quite easy to get.

The Scout Dana 300 is the only one that had the "Texas" bolt pattern. Jeeps are round.

Most of us dream of the 'texas' D300 because we want to mate it to the classic truck 4speeds like sm465 or T18 or whatnot, and helps keep the rear driveshaft as long as it can be in one of these old jeeps.....Bob has no interest in such transmissions, as he has the extra length in the wagons that a more modern 5 speed and adapters won't cause any issues.

I have a Jeep T18 mated to a scout Dana 300 with Tera 4:1 low gears
Im leak free, let’s start there.
common internals with its Jeep brother and the shortest drivetrain combo (4speed) you can possibly muster
All the Novak and AA, JBL, etc all work on the scout units so the aftermarket support is phenomenal.

in my CJ6 my front and rear driveshaft are .75” different, just for shortness comparison…

    just a great drivetrain..

First; apologies to @colojeepguy for the thread-jack. Not my intention with my blurt-out, and I have no prob with an admin moving or deleting; there are several other threads regarding my sitch that we could move to.
But as long as I'm here I'll address the above comments.
Let me begin by clarifying my intentions for those in the dark: The vehicle is a '63 Wagon with a 350 native mated to a SM465 adapted to a Scout D300. This needs to be some sort of daily driver so overdrive capability is necessary to navigate SoCal highways. I've acquired an AX15 and according to my research it's a good choice; available parts or a completely new unit, fairly strong and light.
Did a lot of calling regarding the Scout case and got basically the same response from AA and Novak: it's possible to mate the Scout to the AX but you're better off with a Jeep version. When talking to AA, they didn't even have any reference to the current adapter, boldly stamped "AA 30". So obviously obsolete and it's close to 6" long! FWIW, there's an IH site that offers an adapter, but its over 600 bucks and is custom made to order, takes months. That's the only one I found.
I also found a Brand Spanking New Jeep Dana 300. The adapter for it to the AX is .75", cost $354 and arrived 3 days after ordering. Done and Done.

I've been told by folks here and elsewhere how "desirable" that Scout case is. But it's been up for sale for at least 6 months, here and on IH specific sites and no one is throwing money at me. Yes it's currently in the truck (I mentioned the need for a DD) but I'll pull it, palletize it and send it to whoever wants to pay for it. The best sitch I've found is the possible conversion being done by someone who is obviously passionate about Jeeps and is willing to consider the trans/t-case as part payment. But it's not written in stone for a variety of reasons. Like a lot of folks, I'm on a budget and I really have no room to store the old stuff. This is all a first world problem, and currently the swap to a 31.5" tire wheel combo has made the vehicle slightly more driveable, so the whole project is a lot less "urgent". Plenty of other fixes and upgrades to do in the meantime.
*This would be a good spot to insert another apology to another member for the text pics and words on replacing door window hardware, still struggling with getting pics up on this site. For whatever lame reason I felt I had to share that with another Wagon owner via phone. No mas; I promise.

On arguments to use other stuff: I get the desire for a compound low 1st gear, but this is a fairly stock Wagon not a Rubicon Rock Rig. And unless someone is willing to sponsor the necessary frame and suspension upgrades, it will remain as such. D18 and Warn OD; please, I want to take a step forward. And I don't stack on any status to the amount of shifters showing. Tremac trans; see prior comment about sponsor and RRR. Bottom line is all the parts are here and waiting to be installed. I have neither the room or the tools to do it myself so I've approached several shops in the area. But I was met with astronomical pricing and or ridiculous amounts of time to get it done. The above mentioned individual is my first choice for several reasons including their mentioning it would take them days, not months. Probably a week if I helped; takes extra time to get a backhoe for the body ;)

So that's it in a big nut shell. Lets return to the normally scheduled programing. Thanks for watching.

No need to apologize, it's not MY trans for sale!
I just like to post up Jeep stuff that I find for sale that I think you guys will find interesting.
Your situation with the 4 speed & D300 is a little different than most members here, in that you have enough wheelbase to run a longer trans setup. I'm in the same boat with my Commando, I was seriously interested in a more modern 5 speed before I decided to go automatic (actually my failing knees made that decision for me but I digress  )
