TLDR, I know.. So I'm finally finishing out the 98 XJ and got the 4.10 gears in the front axle finally and ready to bolt back in to match the D44 rear I stabbed in a couple of years ago. my shocks are toast, most of the bushings are worn and I exploded another teraflex 1.5" urethane spacer (that's 2 I've literally exploded). I have an old skyjacker 3" kit on there with a 1.5" teraflex spacer/shackle on top of it to make a hillbilly 4.5" kit. Anyway, I told myself it's time to put a proper kit under it and we just got my 15YO son a 99XJ so now I want to put the 3" springs I have on that and get a new 4.5" kit for my 98.

Now for the obvious question. Yes, I know, the answer is 42. haha.. Anyway, What do you guys like? I'm looking at Rough Country but I want the best ride I can get.. Opinions?

Its a good story.. Way back when I had my 96 XJ I was at the FLAPS in Wisconsin circa 2007-ish and a random guy asked me if he could look at the fusebox in my XJ.. Sure ok, then he asked if I needed axles for it. Being friendly I said no, but what ya got? He replies with., well I took them out of an XJ a long time ago and they are behind my barn so my spidey senses kicked in.. What year? "I think 88".. Holy cheese nips Batman.. "SO yeah, maybe (hiding my excitement in check) what are you asking?" ... 100 bucks to get rid of them.. (eeeek!!!) yeah man, I'll give them a look.. So yeah, go to the farm and there they are, the Coveted holy grail 1988 XJ HD rear D44 and matching D30. I whipped out 100 bucks, tossed em in my Jeep and hauled butt.

They only used that axle for 2 years and only 5% of XJ's had it.. So yeah it's a bolt in affair. The only small mod is the E brake cable. I've tossed in 4.10 gears, a lock rite and some alloy axles (only due to the rusted and pitted seal lands) and tossed it in. It also came with huge 11 x 2 1/2" brakes. I've been driving it as a 2wd for a long time because I never got around to re gearing the front.. Now that's done..

Pardon me, but I'm not recalling photos of this project floating around. I miss things from time to time, but, yeah.

the required... I'll leave it x2 for what sounds like both projects...

Haha I'll have to work on that! I also went with the hack n tap SYE which worked great and tossed the NP242 for the NP 231.
