The reason I bought the jeep I have now is because of the top. If you can see my avatar picture, it's black fiberglass and I think it's made by ACME. My first CJ5 had a soft top and I got tired of the noise and lack of security. I think there is a company that still might make this style of top (Los Angeles maybe?), I saw a website a while back that appeared to be a current company. If I remember what it was I will post it. Mine seems fairly well made. Right now it's in the basement with all the other jeep parts. I'm in the middle of a rebuild.

 

The first CJ 6 I owned had a Kelly metal full length top, I liked it best for two reasons, all around visibility out of the jeep, and, the bottom rear of the drivers door covered the gas filler neck for security, even if it was a placebo. The second '6 had a Meyers full length top, both were noisy.
I just traded for a 1972 CJ 5 with a composite hardtop with unknown heritage, I've never seen another like it. It has doors and tailgate and seems to be pretty flimsy compared to factory hard tops.
NOTE: I have a set of fillers for a metal hardtop, I will make a detailed and dimensioned drawings if someone wants them, maybe post them here as a sticky.

 

Please do post a sketch or drawing of the parts. I’m about ready to start making some.

 

I have like 4 sets of channels made I will sell. I also make the upper hinges but dont have any at the ready but I have time maybe this week ill make some. You can use YJ lower hinges I think and they are still available
