Pulled the housing that holds the speedo gear after pulling the brake assm off the '68 T14A/D18 today. Reason was there was no oil in tranny and the seal apparently has been leaking for some time. All over the ground as the engine has been out since August. The seal looked to be burned and bent in slightly. Probably by a bad installation by yours truly. So, I have pulled the seal out and am ready to install the new one. How do you guys install this seal without damaging it? :(

I just did this yesterday. It went in fairly easily by tapping on it with a large socket. Be careful to not let it get crooked along the way - just stop and eyeball it often.

Thanks. I have a socket that I use for the front axle nuts. Turning it over, I see that it fits with about a 16th of an inch less than the size of the seal. Would you think this would be OK?

Be careful with something that's smaller than the outside diameter of the seal, that's what starts deforming them.

I like Dr. Vern's "firewood" solution, but in reality just about anything that is close to the same diameter will work. I agree with Glenn also, smaller can be bad if you aren't *REALLY* careful. I've also had good luck
with using PVC pipe fittings as drivers.. YMMV. ;)

Took a washer, ground it down to fit. The press worked great. All done. Thanks for the input.
