Hi all. I installed a Bestop Tigertop on my '71 CJ-6, which never had a top (fire station vehicle). I got the extra (optional) door channel pieces from Bestop, but they have no hardware. There are four (4) screw holes on the inside of each vertical portion of the windshield, and the aluminum Bestop brackets are drilled accordingly.

What size sheet metal screw fits these holes? #8? #10?

    Thanks,
    Craig

I’ve used stainless machine screws in the past. I’ve have sheet metal screws break off when trying to remove them on old Jeeps due to them rusting in. Keep the screws short, and you should be able to get nuts on the back side. I prefer to keep the screws small, no larger than #8.

Thanks for the input, Donny. These holes appear to be "captive" holes, though...no access for a nut. I just got back from an unexpected 3-day, 1400-mile trip, and will take another look at the Jeep later today.

Yes...definitely a captive area with no access for a nut on the back side.

The vertical Bestop windshield channels that came with my Supertop top had #6 x 1/2” mounting screws.

Interesting. Mine attach to the inner/adjacent surface rather than the rear-facing surface you're showing. Noted regarding the screw size for this application. It feels like my OEM holes are bigger than #6, but I'll give it a try.

A "captive" nut is a thing, but I think I'd define this this a "blind" hole.
