Reinforcement For Lower Door Hinge Bracket

    The lower door hinge bracket on the drivers side has a 1x3 on the interior side presumably to act like a giant fender washer. My inclination is to remove the wood and weld a tube steel support in its place.
    Good idea or bad idea?

    Some big washers should be fine. Its already reinforced with the brace
