I'm taking apart my transfer case for overhaul. I've read everything I can find on it and watched videos etc.
I'm trying to get the main shaft out. I got the snap ring off that holds the output shaft gear in place. It spins freely on the shaft but it doesn't want to come off. Before I start beating on it I thought maybe I'm missing something...? thanks

gears on splined shafts get worn to the side so it blocks the gear from coming off. There can be a ridge that the gear gets caught behind.

Thanks that makes sense. I'll try filing the shaft a little bit. So that gear SHOULD slide right off the shaft in the direction towards the clip?
