Sterring Bracket

Does anybody have any pictures of where the steering box mount attaches to the frame. I have a 73 cj5 manual steering. I am having trouble locating the position of the steering brackets. Non e of the holes line up

 

Please post pictures of your bracket and the approximate location it should mount.

 

Here is a picture of the steering bracket and the location it goes up around the front spring

 

Has the frame rail been modified, or had another piece welded into the channel?
I'm not that familiar with intermediates, so hoping somebody else can identify the interface.

 

Yes, it looks as though the factory frame has been modified with a “boxing” or enclosing of what should be an open “c”channel frame where the gear mount can slide inside the “c” Chanel for mounting.
You may be able to see the bolt holes on top and bottom of the frame where the bolts passed through. The bolt hole on top of the frame will be just under the front of the grill. As I recall if you needed to remove the rear most bolt one would need to remove the grill to access it.

 

Do you have a Factory Service Manual? (NOT Chilton; NOR Haynes)
These publications can be a valuable tool, full of pictures and diagrams, to understand how the vehicle was originally assembled.
