The 4.3 is a 95. I went a few rounds with the wiring in the blazer after the rebuild. Gave up on the blazer ripped the rebuilt 4.3 and slapped a manifold and carb. No more spiders here.

Diagram shows red to the battery and brown for excite. Shows only 2 wires.

Funny the plug has three cut right off the blazer harness thanks I’ll use the brown one.

The 4.3 I have is a 2000 with TBI and all the O2 sensors, cat, computer, etc. There is only one wire that goes to the 4 prong alternator connection on mine. The Howell wiring harness just had a wire that needs to have a switched parasitic draw on it to sense the current draw. On a one wire 10 or 12 SI conversion, you would do the same thing by taking that wire for current sensing on the alternator and connecting it up to some 12V switched source. This CS130D does not do that and just uses this silly little light. Im sure you could wire in a resistor to perform the same task, but this was free for me and part of the entire astro harness that I kept... Just for this one side marker light.
    Sorry, 2000...

I would recommend the Howell Harness and the flashed GM computer. They disabled VATS and other non required items and made the computer work correctly without the 4L60E auto transmission and the SM420. It wasn't cheap, but it was really plug and play. The only issue I had was that the plugs for the O2 sensors are a different style than the OE astro/Safari ones.

The 96 alternator on mine also has 4 prongs on it. Only one is used. Looking up the Blazer connector online they have 4 wires. Don’t know what the other 3 are for. Other applications maybe?

2000 still shows only red and brown being used.

Can you make this larger so I can read it? It shows the red wire connected to the diodes which is the output of rectified 3-phase. The other wire looks like the exciter, which makes sense seeing its connected to a bulb. This is the "bootstrap" connection, that starts the alternator self-generating from nothing. Part of the alternator output current is used to create the magnetic field that generates more current. Regulated positive feedback, but it needs to boot.

The 10SI and 12SI alternators have a third connection which provides for remote sensing of the battery voltage. This is probably the "S" terminal. Jeep takes this sense wire and loops it right back to the output, which works fine. I presume you could design an alternator that uses the charge wire to see the battery voltage and optionally remove that third wire. The regulator will change the field voltage up and down in response to the battery voltage, adjusting the alternator current output. The battery voltage is the sum of the internal electrochemical potential (12.3V for lead-acid cells) and the voltage from the charge current through the internal resistance of the battery, minus any current used by the rest of the car. It's Ohm's law. More current makes a higher battery voltage.

The red wire is for the battery connection. The fusible link is just some wire that is under sized to melt if it over charges. I used a stock battery cable that has this feature.

This CA130D alternator would be a good upgrade for anyone looking to run an electric fan or fuel pump or whatever accessory. It pushes more amps than the 10 or 12 SI alternators and is still a one wire alternator with the added bonus of charging at idle, which the previous one wire GM alternators don't always do. My stock 225 alternator really couldn't keep up with an electric fan, headlights and brake lights all on at the same time.

Chris, the CS130 alternator, as you said, is a good upgrade as it's standard output is 105 amps. It has been available since the late 1980's. It is not a 1 wire alternator as the sensing wire is used to detect load out into the electrical system but does need to be connected to a switched source (power on in engine run). The sensing wire does not need a lamp in the circuit although as you found you can use one. I have used the CS130 alternator for about 10 years on my jeep without a lamp in the sensing circuit. I use a volt meter to monitor battery condition/load.
10SI and 12SI can be purchased with similar output capacities as the CS130. 10SI alternator can be purchased with outputs as high as 150 amps and 12 SI units with outputs far greater than that although their cost is probably greater than the standard CS130 alternators.

2000 must of had a body control module.
