So I am having the same problem others have had. I got the motor in but now the hood will hit the air cleaner. Originally I was using a 4.3L air cleaner with a 4 to 2 bbl throat reducer. But it is too high.

So i do not have the mounts welded in yet, so i was going to lower the mounts about an inch.

I also have a later CJ single barrel air cleaner that is offset for a 6 cyl which does have potential to fit better. I would need to make a mount to support the heavy side that will be over the valve cover.

Other than adding a little more body lift to the stock poly pucks. Has anyone had luck using the dropped air filter bottom on a 2G? Did it hit any linkages or interfere with the operation of the carb?

This is what I am talking about for a dropped bottom.

Obviously that is for a 4BBL, but that is the gist of it. I would like to get a factory looking air cleaner.

My dad has a stock 64 or 65 Buick "Fireball" V6 air cleaner on his flatfender:

It came on the engine when he got it. His motor mounts are stock Dauntless Jeep units welded to the GPW frame. It ain't cheap but there is on on ebay right now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/144258626404?hash=item21967bf364:g:FMcAAOSwB89hcxYj&LH_ItemCondition=3000

There is also a factory spacer between the air cleaner and carburetor that's a little shorter than the later Jeep ones. A 1" one of these from Speedway would work for that: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Stromberg-Air-Cleaner-Spacers-2-5-8-Inch,80937.html

Air cleaner clearance is a common problem. I solve my problem with a carb hat from summit racing after several attempts at other solutions.

Carb hat is a great option especially if you don't have room under the hood. Before I did the body lifts to get the space, I would take a cold air intake kit and modify it for the 390s we were running. Pipe the tube to a cool air intake area and put a round air cleaner on it.

Mr C (family friend) built an air box for a square air cleaner and then piped the intake up like a snorkel. He had to cross a river pretty often on the family property and it made his life easier - except when the water ran across his wife's lap :D

I would not lower the engine as that can cause problems down below with the axle, driveshaft, and even rocks/stumps. It also can put the fan too low for the radiator.
GM had lots of low profile air cleaner bases through the ‘60s through ‘80s years that had bulges for the carb linkages. I used one of these low bases (4bbl version) which allowed for a 5” filter element on my Buick 215. I’ve used a 2 bbl version from an early ‘80s Buick or Olds.
