C Shackles

On my 54 3b the c shackles are worn out and getting new ones is impossible right now. What's needed to switch to an H setup. Can I use the frame mounts and just buy the h setup or do I need to buy new frame mounts as well.

 

The H style use rubber or poly bushings, which usually come with the kits. If your spring hangers are not totally shot you shouldn't have to do anything besides tap the bushing into place and install the shackle.

 

Will rubber or poly bushings fit snug enough into the existing threaded style hanger? Don’t know just curious?

 

Yes, they will fit just fine.

 

People have been replacing the old style C shackles with H shackles for at least the last 50 years. Very easy to do.

 

Be sure to inspect the frame hangers for wear. I ran into this when I switched out my frame. Someone left the c shackle loose and it wallowed out the frame hangers enough to force a move to poly to fill the gap.
