I just put the lockouts on my new D30. Did the disk brake conversion and used the inner wheel bearing race you posted in an earlier discussion. It positioned the rotor perfectly, however when I went to put the snapring on the end of the axle I found the groove to be back in the spindle by about the difference I spaced the hub. The axle won't move in too far out out to far it appears, so I'm thinking, chuck the snap rings and be happy. Tell me I'm right. Please

I ran into that once. Grab the axle and pull on it. It may move just far enough to get the snap ring on. It did for me...

No problem. Been running mine without the snap ring for about 8 years with no problems. Did with the closed knuckle before that with no problems. The only real problem you might run into is if you are running the closed knuckle Rzeppa or Bendix axles. I never thought about those before as I've never run them, always run Spicer u-joint axles. One of those types of axles had to be shimmed IIRC when putting on locking hubs. This is going off of a very dim memory though. That's the only place I could think of there "might" be an issue. nickmil,

I don't believe it matters with the bendix axles either. I put warns on my '46 ff and the axle ends have threads and no snap ring groove. They have been running without snap ring or nut for 15 years.
