What goes on the standoffs to keep them from tearing up the hood? Rubber hose? Heard something about wood blocks?

I have one old one that has some piece of tubing. I am not sure if that is original or not. I am looking for a decent replacement for my new ones. I think I am going to hit the stores and find a suitable replacement. I have seen some cushion type tubing that may work.

The ones I sold NickMil off Dutch were in decent shape yet, and had rubber hose, held on by webbing running through the hose and pop riveted in place at the ends:

By the way, they look real nice on the w/shield frame I got from Ty on my '68 "Parts" Jeep. I'll have to take a pic of it for you Boyink. Nickmil.

I used the black rubber bungee cord material. You know, the flat black rubber straps with a s shaped hook on each end. I cut it to so it would cover the outside of the stand off and then drilled small holes to match with the side holes in the stand off. And used some small screws with nuts on the side of the standoff. Works like a charm.

I did not put any protruding screw heads on the front part that touches the hood as this would indeed mar the paint. I also made a couple wraps with electrical tape to keep it from rubber close to the metal. In retrospect, I could have used something like super glue to secure the strap to the metal. Maybe next time.

    Good luck
