I was given a 72 cj5 a couple of months ago. It had been my uncles, but he died about 5 years ago, and hadn't touched the jeep in 5 years before that. It didn't run at all. After lots and lots of time searching through this forum for answers, I finally got it running - replaced just about the entire fuel system and a few other odds and ends.

Then I discovered the clutch linkage was a disaster. So, after more time searching though this forum I decided to put in a hydraulic clutch linkage (I think it still needs a new clutch and probably a new flywheel, but I'm not sure what parts are needed yet). This morning I drove it to work! First time in 10-12 years that it has been driven on the road without needing a tow.

I'm sure eventually I'll need to ask for some help, but just wanted to say thanks for all the answers that you've all already submitted - they are the reason the Jeep is running!

Stats on the Jeep that I know of:
    fuel injected 258
    t19 transmission (yep, 19 not 18)
    dana 300 tcase
somewhere in the range of a 3 inch lift with revolver shackles
    arb lockers front and rear
transmission and tcase belly drop kit
3 different master craft heaters (it use to be a plow jeep)
fully boxed front and rear of the frame (again, 'cause it use to be a plow jeep)
4 square inches that aren't completely covered in rust!
leaks about a quart of oil every 5 miles.

It’s amazing what’s out there in tens of search data. I’ll often Google search topics of interest and often not be surprised when my answer lies here.
