Looking For Tires Fit Stock 15 Inch Wheel

I’m looking for a 30 or 31 inch tire that will fit my stock 15 inch wheels. Looking for a radial mud tire type tread. The wheels will be black in color.

 

How wide are your wheels?

 

stock width rim of 15x6 or 15x4.5 ?

235/75R-15 would be an place to start looking.

 

A lot of this will depend on your budget. MT's span a pretty wide range of prices depending on brand and whatnot.

I order online from Wal Mart then install them at home but this will give you an idea of what's around. I run a set of Achilles Desert Hawk X-MTs on the CJ all the time and on the XJ when I go on trips. They're fairly affordable at 130 a tire for 235s.

A 235/75R15 will get you in the Ballpark of 29 inches. Not quite the 30 you are looking for but pretty close.

The Jeep is a 1963 CJ5 tux park. I never measured the width, but do know the wheel is 15 inches. I’m not looking for the cheapest tire, but don’t want to spend 400 on a single tire . Thanks for the help.

This is from a few years ago, the "mud claws" have held up very well.

I am running Hankook Dynapro MT 30x9.5 R 15 LT. They are mounted on 7" wide rims, later 70's alum slot mags. I've had them 2 years but not a ton of miles, less than 700 miles. They did great on the Colorado trip last eyar. I like them.

I run 700x15 military NDCCs on my stock rims of my ‘56. They stand about 29 inches high depending on how I air them up. They look great and are wonderful off road and for puttering around town BUT they wouldn’t be my first choice if I drive a lot on wet pavement. The military tires really only contact the road along the center line of the tire and there is no real tread in that area (about as wide as a bike tire). Now all this being said I don’t run them fully inflated and I’ve never had an issue but I don’t tempt fate with speed on wet pavement either . When it comes time for my next set of tires I will probably go to the Traxion route but I’ve only had the military’s on any of my classic Jeep’s. They do look impressive.

 

My Tux came new from the dealer with 7.60-15 mud and snow, specifically Goodyear Suburbanites. The equal sizes today are 215/80-15, 225/75-15, and 235/70-15. The 225/75-15 measures 28.3" tall x 8.9" wide.
One size larger is very acceptable, being a 235/75-15. This larger size gives you more tread choices.

I have 235/75R-15 All Season on 15 X 7 Ansens and 3:73 axels. Works great for what we do, mostly Fire Roads Forest Viewing, and Two lane Blacktop driving. Good Luck.

 

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I’m going to remove the tire from the spare wheel and measure the width. Where do I take the measurement from? Bead to bead ?

 

inside bead to bead yes.

 

An original rim on a '63 will likely be 4 1/2" wide, and have no hubcap nubs. In '64, Kaiser went to a 5" rim with hubcap nubs. In close to 60 years, who knows what has been swapped around , so measuring will tell you what you have.

A tire shop will have a tool to measure wheel width without removing the tire.

 

Those STA Traxion tires look mighty sweet.

Think I'll go with those on the 64 CJ5. Classic Look.
