Ok, I can breathe again. The Flattie is roadworthy and ready for Tellico. :D

I had gotten the Jeep essentially back on the road last week and took several local cruises around town to work out the bugs, and found that I had an awful growling coming from the tranny/transfer case area.
Less than a week away from Tellico, so a swap / rebuild was just about out of the question. Panic set in.

Welp, I got home from work this moring and commenced to wrenchin' when I should have been sleeping. (Feel free to join in here with me fellas, y'all know the tune.) I found the tranny full of foamy, watery chocolate-milkshake-looking slime, so I drained both the tranny and transfer case and pulled the overdrive unit. The overdrive was full of filings and metal bits, so it is likely to be toast. Out it came. Replaced the original bullgear and cover, then refilled everything with new 90wt lube. VOILA! The growl is gone!

Now I know I drained and refilled the tranny/transfer cases when I reinstalled them with the engine. I guess I didn't flush them well enough though. Oh, and I'm going to have to ship the OD unit off to Herm to see if it is saveable. The bottom line is that I'm fairly confident that this thing isn't going to grenade itself out on the trail this coming weekend.

Sounds like the same stuff that came out of my rear diff. It also had sludge in the bottom that looked like a Wendy's Frosty. Had to sweep it out with my hand.
