I ordered new wheels for my 74cj5. After getting them I noticed that the rear axle, (dana 44), has 5 lugs and the front axle,(dana 30), has 6 lugs. Unfortunately all 4 wheels came 5 lug. Are all dana 30's 6 lug? Never saw a vehicle that has 5 on rear and 6 on front before.

Huh? Thats odd. I've never seen a D30 that was 6 lug. Should be real easy to convert to 5 on 5 1/2 as all the cj stuff is 5 lug. Just find a donor axle to swap over.

Did someone do a disk brake conversion on it?

Hmm, 6 lug 30 with drums seems strange... The only 6 lug 30 would've been Quadra Trac, no?

Why? Bigger drum brakes? Seems kinda silly as later waggys had discs. Why not just go disc? PO musta had these parts laying around. :D

There was just an article on this in last month's JP magazine. Seems there are some donor axles in other vehicles. Unfortunately, none are a drop-in fit, and none have the same bolt pattern as a Jeep.

JP advised against having 2 different bolt patterns on a vehicle, BTW...

Unfortunately I'm stuck with it for now. My wife dropped our digital camera and broke it. As soon as I can borrow one I will post a picture.
