I have a jeep t18 with the dana 20 adapter, but i want to adapt it to my dana 18 t-case. the output spline to the t18 is 6 spline so is my dana 18. but the gear on the output shaft of the t18 is too large to fit in the dana 18, how do i mate these too using what i already have?? is there a way? i've searched and there's alot of answers but i don't understand?

you will use the gear that came with the Dana 18. the other one is for the 20. and wont work. And you say too big, is it wont fit in th ecase. You will have to attach the Tcase first then silde the gear in behind it.

oh that ads another thing to the mix. unfortunately you will need to get another bull gear. the T14 wont work, it is the incorrect spline. you will need to get some nubmers off the Dana 18 intermediate gear, if you pop it on its side you can get a flashlight in there to look and see some numbers on the gear. then goto Novak site and find out which bull gear you need. You will be able to use the OD, but you will now need an OD that will work with the new Bullgear. I am not sure about the OD, but i do remember that the T14 OD was differn than the rest.

didn't mean to confuse anybody but the od is from a six spline t-case in a 1946 cj2a i was wondering if that od would work on the t18 output in the 6 spline t-case?

it should work, just need to know if it is a 29 or 26 tooth unit. I am not sure about which is the cutoff. but the final answer is yes you can mount an OD with the T18 and dana 18.

Does the T18 have to be mated to a big hole dana 18? I have no idea

Yes. To use the factory T18/D20 adaptor you need to use a big hole Dana 18

The spline count is based onte htranny output. 10 spline will be based on the T14 rear output. You can get a 6 spline bullgear and slide it on and match it to the Dana 18.

If the overdrive came from a unmodified cj2A, you are out of luck.

You need the 29 tooth version, and the 2A had the 26 tooth version.

Now you could buy a new 'barrel' gear and make it work, but it might be cheaper to get another overdrive and sell the 2A overdrive.

Herm might cut you a deal for a rebuilt overdrive and some boot $$$ and take yours in on trade, but that is just an idea, I don't know if he does that.

Save that T-14 intermediate gear -- I'm sure someone will need it if they are installing a T-14 in their jeep.

There is also the T-14 adapter for the transfer case. The person who needs the intermediate gear will most likely need the adapter too.
