Axle Regear

    I got an opportunity to pick up a dana 44 and dana 30 w\ 4.10 for less than a new regear my 81cj7 t19 dana300 w\2.73. D30/amc20.
    Wanting to eventually get lockers, springs maybe lomax 4.1 Just to do some mild trails nothing too crazy.

    What could possibly go wrong?

    Prior abuse or shoddy work by a PO.

    Inspect the gears.
    Run a pattern.
    Check backlash.
    Check the oil condition.
    Ask the PO for the axle history.
    WT versus NT

    If you are going to do a traction upgrade, I recommend you do it while the axle is still on the ground. Easier of you are doing the work, cheaper if you have somebody else do it.
