yeh i know. we assume its a TBI intake since we could not find a carb that would fit. no 2 barrel seems to have that bolt pattern, i have probably 5 carbs in my dads trunk from people just giving me a spare carb because i could not find one that would work.

Spray the crank with an oil designed for long term use, I use a product leftover from my dads mold shop, heck I could sink that crank in a lake leave it for 10 years, come back and get it clean it off and use it. The only stuff that will take this stuff off is Acetone or MEK, brake cleaner won't even do it.

whew, i picked it up out of a core pile ecause the externals showed it to be an odd-fire, and it was painted alpine green. too bad i didn't have the casting numbers with me. but, the engine should have an even fire hei distributor in it, so maybe a 78-79ish skylark? autozone shows a 231 available for those years so maybe that's it?

the block is buried under a table so finding the casting numbers would be a bear, but here's the list of numbers for the v6's... if yours is in the 225/231 family it should be in there.

So sorry, just thought the understanding of how the things worked would help. I will crawl back into the corner and wear the cap....

My old 81' El Cameno had one of those odd ball carbs. I think the only carburetor you will find for that intake is one that is computer controlled. My Full size shop manual says it's a Rodchester E2ME carburetor for a 83' 229 motor.

hmm guys now i am debateing. i have this motor that is going to need a new distributor well i have everything for an even fire motor. do you all think maybe i should just go find a 4.3 pull it and use that or get the semi-even fire distributor and use that. something tells me both will be about the same price.
