Well I think I have located a 74 CJ5 swinging brake and clutch assembly. And the guy says he can throw in a power brake booster from a 97, well for a few more dollars. Is adding power brakes a good thing? Not that I will ever be a hard core 4wheeler, but if the engine stalls best as I can remember power brakes lose there bite. I had never thought about adding power brakes once I get the disc front axle swapped in.

I'm running hydro-boost on my YJ. It's a great upgrade. As I understand the operation, vacuum is 2:1, hydro-boost is 4:1 assist. Ron

I bought a 73 CJ 5 with the Hydro boost and the braking was incredible. But the only real reason I bought another CJ 5 was to take the hard top off and then quickly sold it. I had thought about removing the boost system just did not have the time to reinstall a brake system since my 71 brakes were not a direct replacement for the 73. Thanks Tim that might be the way to go in the long run. I am still trying to get some of the easier stuff done first. And adding the vacuum boost appears pretty straight forward.

Have you did any brake upgrades at the wheels, disc, bigger shoes?. If you upgraded the brakes and you lose the power assist, you can stop. When you lose the vacuum assist with power brakes, the master cylinder still works the same way, you just lose "the boost". You still have the transmission to stop you.

The front Dana 30 is out of 1978 disc. And the rear are 11 inch drums.
