Been researching it seems that no one can manufacture a windshield frame. I've read reviews that say holes don't line up,metal is flimsy,
Glass won't fit frame, excess metal needs to be trimmed...can anybody attest to having bought a good windshield frame? My plan b would be to find and old frame and attempt to restore

Does your Jeep have a windshield frame now? If so, what's wrong with it?

Rusted along the bottom edge of the glass where the seal sits leaks water into interior.

Year, model equipment? You should put that in every post. I'd assume it's an intermediate?

No experience with the replacment frames - I repaired the bottom of my windshield to seal some rust holes. Did not need to remove the glass.

Had you considered removing the glass and repairing what you have? The intermediate windshields are the ideal replacement for all CJs '75 and earlier, and you may have trouble finding a suitable replacement. You can fit the later windshield; it mostly fits with minor mods, though the fabric and hard tops are different and not compatible across the '75-76 boundary.

81 cj7 i read somewhere someone using "liquid metal" sound like a bondo but stronger. What did you do or use to repair. Was it along the lip of the seal?

I used steel and pop riveted it in place. All the new steel is hidden under the cowl seal. Not sure what you mean by lip of the seal.

If you have an '81, that's the newer style windshield. If it's really rusted, you should be able to find a replacement. Try car-part.com or a WTB (want to buy) on the Jeep forums. I think that the CJ forum at jeepforums.com has the largest number of jeep owners of these late CJs.

Any putty is going to be a temporary repair compared to new steel. That may be good enough, if you garage the Jeep or the damage is not extensive.

The steel and the seal around the glass is solid on mine. I had rust between the cowl and the windshield frame. Plus my windshield is different from yours - you have the later type.

I think the YJ windshields ('87-95 Wrangler) are the same too. That would extend the search some.

Oh, there are a lot of them if you search for an '87-95 Wrangler. Pretty sure that's the same windshield - maybe somebody here can confirm.

The wrangler will bolt on but looks slightly different. some have the glass glued in instead of a gasket to hold it in.

I've got rust out on thebottom of the frame on my 75. Trying to figure that out also, buy new crap or fix what I have? After reading here I may try to fix what I have ,sounds like it's possible to replace the bottom piece that is sandwiched in between.
