    Hey Gang,

Just finished rebuilding the T14 in my Jeep with ~70K original miles. The transmission was actually in really good shape and running fine before the restoration started with only some slight front bearing play.

Like the trans the Dana 20 T-case also ran fine aside from needing seals. Since I am digging into the T-case to reseal it should I plan on rebuilding it too or are these things good for like 200K miles?

Reason for the question is I want to know what to order a simple seal kit or a master rebuild kit. The trans, motor and rest of the Jeep does not appear to have ever been abused and again I do not recall any issues with the T-case other than the leak.

Pull the intermediate shaft and inspect it carefully. The Dana 20's don't wear the shaft like the Dana 18's do. You may get by just replacing quality seals, maybe bearings. I would pull the transfer case down to evaluate before I ordered parts.

Thanks fellas. I figured that would be the answer. I gotta say the inside of the tcase looks really good just like the trans. This Jeep must have been babied. No chipped teeth, no signs of abuse and it is definitely original to the Jeep. Only 70K miles on the speedo but 70K on a 74 is like 120K on today's rig.

BTW I ordered a rebuild kit from RockAuto it is made by DT which I guess is related to Timken somehow. I was happy with their transmission kit, came with the same bearings I believe Novak uses - Jaf and some Swedish bearing. I did have to buy thrust washers and the synchro retainer springs separately which I think were Crown pieces but could have been Omix, either way they were all made in the USA and were about $4 total. Hoping the Tcase kit is at least as good.
