    My ignition was not perfect.
So I checked the 4 plugs, correct.
The wires and plugs cover are not nice, I would like to change them, the 4 + 1, but difficult to find in France (the good size, or I must make them myself maybe)
I opened the Autolite ignition head, and checked inside.
I cannot say if it must be changed or not.
When I remember of my far past, there is the « ignition finger » which turns to light the 4 plugs.
And the contact on the rotor, which creates a spark.
These parts must be changes sometimes, the contact may become worn, with a hollow inside, etc…
I have cleaned all inside, and it seems that all work well.
But maybe I could imagine changing parts, can you tell me what are they ?:)
Maybe the condenser located besides, but when parts work, sometimes it is better to keep them... image.gif IMG_4864.jpeg IMG_4867.jpeg IMG_4868.jpeg IMG_4869.jpeg IMG_4871.jpeg

    Good morning,
Are you asking for part numbers for the specific parts? A full tune up would be to replace spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor and ignition points. All of these should be readily available at an auto parts store. They can look it up by year, make and model. At least this is the situation in the United States. There were a few different distributors used in the Hurricane engine so there are different ignition point types available for a given year. Your existing set may have a number on it.

The quality of ignition points available today is not as good as in past years. So they may not last as long. I can't see the contact points in your photos to see how much life is left. They wear visibly over time.

To adjust the new points you will need a feeler gauge.

Another option is to upgrade to a Pertronix electronic ignition. This replaces the points and condenser. Installation is easy. Some claim this unit gives better performance than original equipment. However, this unit is much more expensive than traditional points.

I think you should also carefully clean the outside of the cap (and wires).

The cap and rotor appear okay.

The contact points are very important to be in good condition and adjusted correctly.

check the condition of point surface - burn/pits . rubbing blocks wear causing point gap to close
check gap with filler gauge . reset and check timing
agree with pete . clean all that dirt off . kind of strange wires on cap have no boots

Yes maybe I could buy this Pertronix. It is difficult to get parts for this engine now in France, no more parts in stock, probably easier to order from USA. I had ordered long ago at 4x4 Morris, no problem, and also Omix Ada, not very good quality.
Maybe I can get informations about a good shop for these parts, if I don't buy a Pertronix.
I'll check the exact nr for my Autolite ignition.
But I just cleaned all, and we made a trip around the village, all was perfect. But better to be careful and prepare the future.:D

    I use
I used to do this ... 50 years ago, I had a small lamp connected to ? and looked at cylinder up or something like this, there was a mark somewhere else...
Frankly, I don't remember but there is a logic in it, as in the Universe of course.
    Sometimes, difficult to see it!

Can you by from RockAuto in France? At least you can use their database to look up part numbers. You can then use those part numbers to search Amazon which I know you can order from in all of Europe.

Alan, you can probably clean the contacts on the points (pictured post #3) with a fine file or sand paper. Keep your original condenser (round cylinder with wire out the end) because new condensers are not reliable. Clean up the distributor, inside and out, and add a touch of grease to the lobes where the points rubbing block rides. Adjust points gap while on the high part of the lobe, and you should be good.

Yes I can do this. I'll try to get parts, inclus wires and cap for plugs. In the book they say Prestolite, but mine is Auto-lite! IMG_4876.jpeg

When I'll get parts or if a change to Pertronix is interesting, I'll see.
I suppose that there are costs about the Pertronix.
Is it 100% good and better than what I have ?

I checked RockAuto, ... it si incredible they have these parts, and cheap! In France they charge a lot for this. I'll check all calmly, with delivery.
I also read a post about Pertronix, it doesn't seem so obvious to have it work.
I remember that to check the ignition point on a cylinder, I use to take the plug off and check when the cylinder is up, minus some degrees... I forgot all this...

There are suppose to be boots on the spark plug wires where they go into the distributor cap. This may be part of the problem especially with moisture getting in the connector.
