Does anyone know the specifics for the date code on the crossmember where the fuel tank mounts?

The date of 3/1/76 is obvious, but the 15 HG and the A?

My CJ5 was mis-titled with a swapped VIN as a 1979 CJ7 with a 304 and automatic. The Jeep is actually a 1976 CJ5 with a 258 1bbl carb and 3 speed.

I'm putting together the original VIN. I found the six digit sequential serial number on the frame, so I'm good with the VIN except the gross vehicle weight character.

The 6th character is the GVW and it's either A (3,750) or E (4,150). Not sure if there is a way I can tell, leaf spring count etc?
So my VIN is: J6F83(A or E)A6619(0/9/8) Not sure about the last digit of the SN. I think 0.

Does it have the original springs? What is the leaf count, front and rear? If like earlier years, the HD springs/shocks option would determine the GVWR rating.
