Door Hinge Position Question

I'm building a cj5 out of 3 piles of parts. The question is the soft door hinge position on a 73 tub with Bestop doors.

I have a 73 windshield frame and roll bar, and a 76 windshield frame and roll bar. I really want to run the 73 combination, but I don't want to spend the money on the top only to find out I can't make it work.

After I get a little farther into the assembly I'll be selling the left over parts.

Pile 1 and pile 2 I didn't get pic's of pile 3 before I took it apart.

Your '76 windshiels frame is very different from the '75-earlier. The '76-up is narrower at the top, and it lays back at a different angle. The tops and doors are not interchangable. The top has to match the windshield frame.

Thanks for the response. I need to know what type of door hinges to use for the 73 top and where to mount them(on the tub, on the hinge?, in the door jam?) with a new bestop top. Thanks again. I haven't bought the top yet. Ron

 

The top will have everything you need including the hinge location.

 

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. All I'm starting with is a lower hinge bolted to the side of the tub. Ron

 

most likley a remnant from a hard top. the bestop hinges go in the jamb for the supertop and fit into the door opening lip on the tiger top

 

Does the top come with the hinges? Can I get some pics of what I'm looking for, I've looked at a lot jeep pic's. Thanks, Ron

 

A soft top should come with the upper hinge, which mounts on the tubular side of the windshield frame. The lower "hinge" is the door's frame that drops into the socket at the bottom corner of the tub's door opening.

And the super top has its own hinges with layout for placement.

 

I changed how I searched for the info. The tiger top mounts with a pin in a hole at the bottom and a hinge at the top. The super top has 2 hinges in the door opening. Each one has things I like and don't like. Now to figure out what I what to do so it'll with a fiberglass tub, Thanks again all, Ron

 

I have a glass tub and had a tiger top. Hated the door latches. Got a vintage bestop with the flip over handles now.

 

It seems both tops have the same latch system. I don't mind modifying something into what I want, but I usually don't do it to a 1000 dollar top, Thanks again for the help. Ron
