I've searched this site and others but I haven't found a part number / manufacturer name combination for the tapered cup used to install the upper ball joint on a 79 Dana 30. OTC has a master kit that is >$800 that probably has the cup, but I prefer to just get the cup if available.

Anyone have a manuf. and part no. for this cup?

    thanks,

Harbor Freight sells an ball joint adapter kit that is used with a ball joint press. I’ve never heard of anyone selling the adapters individually but it’s possible. Usually the adapters that come with the press work fine for a CJ Dana 30.

Thanks nickmil. Summit Racing sells some press adapter kits for 4x4 axle ball joints and I was thinking one of those might have the tapered cup I'm asking about. Having a part number to reference would be ideal but may not happen. I have an ADT ball joint press but it doesn't have a tapered cup. The bottom part of the knuckle where the upper ball joint gets pressed into has a curved shape that can get the ball joint going in crooked and bound up when being pressed in. Lots of guys use washers as shims to get a flat surface. I may go that route too until I find that cup.

How about grinding one you have to work? I’ve had to do this several times

That's a good idea. I can always find a replacement for the one I know about. Nice.
