The wife just picked up a CJ5 that has been rebuilt by the previous owner, it now has a fibreglass tub. When it was rebuilt the guy did not replace any of the heater bits. There are also no holes in the firewall for a heater.

We have been looking about for a replacement heater and came across the Mojave jobby. I sourced one locally, but with the plenum it is going to cost me about 270 CDN (I am in Canada).

My question is if I were to go to the wrecking yard and tear something out of another vehicle, what would be a good donor.

    My requirements are simple.
    1. I only care for floor and defrost heat and they can both blow at the same time.
    2. Multi-speed fan would be nice but on and off would suffice
    3. I think I want to mount it all behind the dash panel to minimize the size of any holes to be put in the firewall.

So given that, what do you guys suggest. also I haven't yet pulled the dash panel to see the condition of the defroster plenum/vents yet, if they are even there, which I doubt. So can I just take some tin and whack a new plenum or is there after market stuff available for the defroster vents?

    thanks.

    John.

I used a rear cabin heater from a Chevy AstroVan. Just crimped off the A/C portion. Fabbed a bracket to hold it on the passenger side firewall, had to sacrifice the glove box (couldn't use it anyway because of the front hoop).
I'ts already set up with a 3-speed fan, all you need is the switch. The one I found in a conversion van already had a small plenum with two hoses... I pointed one to the floor, the other hooked directly to my defroster plenum. Ran a couple heater hoses, and Bob's Your Uncle!! R)

Do a search, I had some info and pics on here awhile back.
