I know the answer to this question is somewhere on this sight but I can't seem to search the right parameters to figure it out. Please forgive me.

I have repacked my powerlock with a new clutch pack and now I don't know how tight to tighten everything back up. I did my best guess and put the bolts to the power lock at 55 foot pounds and the four bolts that hold the ring gear in at 150. I have not put the diff cover back on, but when I do, how tight do I put those bolts as well? I am awaiting guidance from the experts.

    Thanks for your time,

    Crawdaddy

I changed my diff oils and cleaned the surface with rubbing alcohol and applied a healthy coat of ATV (orange) silicone. I hand tightened the bolts an no leaks (snugged). I am sorry for no torqu specs.

Ring gear torque for a D30 is 50 ft. lbs. I imagine a D27 is about the same. The 4 bolts that hold the carrier in should be 55 - 60 ft lbs

Looks like I may have the four bolts way too tight. I hope I havent damaged something there. I have backed them off until I figure out for sure what they are supposed to be. Thanks

ring gear bolts - 35-55 ft lbs
powerloc case halve bolts - 35-45 ft lbs
    diff bearing caps - D44 - 70-90 ft lbs
I would assume D27 cap bolts the same

Back them all the way off and re-torque. Just to be sure. :D

    yup,
I pulled them out, put some grease on the ring gear and checked to ensure the ring and pinion was still set up correctly, then applied some loctight to the ring gear cap bolts and torqued them to 55, then put the diff cover back on. Will put the gear oil in tomorrow.

Im gona order some new brake hardware, ie slack adjusters, shoes, the whole bit there, before I put the brake hardware back on. I got some new 33's coming in this week, along with a skyjacker 4" lift. Want to make sure the brakes are good to go.

    Thanks for ur help friends,
BTW, purchased a chilton manual and the differential or ring and pinion are not even in the book, not mentioned anywhere!

    No surprise there.

A better reference is a reprint of the factory manual available at places like http://www.thejeep.com etc.
