The jeep I bought yesterday has a vin of 8322A16095
But on the title it is missing the A?
    Any explanation?

I believe the "A" designates a V6 engine. The 8322 is the model designation for the CJ5a, or Tuxedo Park. The 5 following numbers are simply your serial number. When I get home in a day or two, I can tell you the month and year of production. The MKlV Tuxes have their own set of serial numbers, separate from the CJ5 model. You may find the 5 serial digits stamped on top of the right front frame rail just ahead of the firewall.

The original issuer of the title goofed and left out the A. Maybe the Jeep dealership that ran the new title to the state registry? Should be fine as long as the sequential serial number part matches.

You have your Nevada title yet? You could ask the clerk to fix it.

so the story is that the second owner had it in a barn for 30 years and he passed away, and the guy that I bought it from bought it in the estate sale. He had someone come out and verify the Vin. This was all in California. And I didn’t notice the air until I got back to Nevada the next day. I haven’t gotten the title yet haven’t gone in with the virus stuff going on.

Do you know how many were made that year of the 66 model? And what number this one would be for that year?

Funny story. When I was living in Nevada, I brought my 1941 Ford Pickup down with me. Now, my pickup was built out of about 4 different trucks, and any actual serial numbers were *long* gone. So when we went to title it, we found a number stamped into the firewall. For the sake of argument, lets say it was A1234 (not the actual stamping we found, but same format). Now in Montana, my dad and I, we were able to have the local sheriff come over, and he looked at this number A1234, and said "Yep, that looks like a serial number to me" and signed off on our application for title. We send off the paperwork, and we get back a shiny new Montana title, with a matching serial number of A1234.

Now, that's not actually really a serial number, as I recall, it was a stamping number from whichever plant welded the cabs together. Regardless, I now have a legal document, stating that I own a 1941 Ford Pickup, with a serial number of A1234.

I go to register it in Nevada, so I drive it down to the DMV, and pull it into the VIN inspection station, not thirty seconds in, the inspector says "This can't be the VIN." Well, right off, in 1941 there were no VIN's, as such. Regardless, I've got a legal title from the State Of Montana that says it is.

Nope. The State of Nevada refuses to recognize it. No way, no how.

So I actually had to get an attorney involved, and go through about three damn months of sending certified this, and notarized that, back and forth between the State of Montana, and the State of Nevada, before they finally say "Ok, we'll let you re-title it in Nevada and put plates on it."

So I'm standing in line, after getting the VIN inspection signed off on, after all this, and the girl behind the counter has the audacity to tell me "You know, you didn't have to retitle your vehicle to get Nevada plates, we don't require that." I almost came unglued and went across the counter to strangle this girl. I was *pissed*. But I managed to hold my temper. And guess what the Serial Number on my Nevada title is? A1234.

Nevada DMV is quite possibly the worst DMV I've ever had to deal with. Good luck getting your title corrected, if you happen to run into a particularly anal-retentive VIN inspector....

In Texas it is the same way. You can register your vehicle with an out of state title if the title is in your name. That allows individuals that have a loan to obtain registration when they move to TX rather than getting the title from the finance company, retitling it and then sending the title back to the finance company. You can do the same with a clear title.

Since the truck really didn't seem to have a VIN I would feel fortunate to have made it this far.

And where's the picture of your truck?(y)

Thank you. The previous owner said it was a 66 but the title said it was a 67. Where would I find more build out info like gear ratio and that sorts?

Here's the most recent photo I've got of it.

I actually haven't driven it in about 6 years now, because it's been schlepping a parking spot at my brother and/or fathers property back in Montana, because I just don't have any place to park it right now.

Jeeps were often titled as the year of their sale. In this era, the year-to-year transitions are indistinct, if present at all. Not like big-3 passenger cars.
Does not exist. Kaiser Jeep or the dealership would have had that info. Near total certainty all the records went into the dumpster 50 years ago. There is no such information in the VIN beyond what you have now. Let the Jeep tell you what's there.

The "A" in your serial number tells me your Tuxedo Park came with a Dauntless V6. Most of the V6 powered CJs (including Tuxes) came with 3.73 gears as standard, though 4.88 gears were optional. You have a '66 model year, but it was common to have the title reflect when it was sold new.
I have a '64 Tux my dad bought new in 1965. I always assumed it was a '65 as the title said, but it was a "left over" the sat on the lot a while before it sold.
