I have a 69 cj5 with the 225 and with a crack in the block. I have a fully built complete 231 from a 79-80 Buick century. It has a thick dauntless flywheel and was mounted to a T90. What is needed to get this 231 into the 69 with the T14? Thanks for any help.

What about exhaust manifolds?. Will the 225 ones just bolt right up, or will I need 231 manifolds? Don't want headers.

I think the T14 has a 10 spline output shaft instead of the 6 spline on the T90. Just need a tcase input gear that matches.

Just clarifying, I have a bad 225 and want to know if a 79 231 from a Century will be a direct boltup to the heads while keeping the 225 manifolds as they are now. Just wondering about the exhaust, I understand all the other differences. Thanks

I have 1978 manifolds bolted to my 1971 odd fire . So I would say yes . If thats what you are asking . They bolt up and the ports lined up . I did grind them to match better.

Valve cover from the 1978 231 will fit but you have to elongate gate 2 of the holes . That said they don’t have the top flat looking like the 225 valve covers. To me it just didn’t look right.

I guess my real question is, will I have to modify my exhaust crossover because the angle of the head exhaust mounting face, or are they the same. Thanks

I believe that that heads are the same angle and in the same spot. They just made the valve covers different. To the best of my knowledge.i would check but I no longer have the 231 motor.

I see a lot yes the exhaust manifolds are the same between a OF225 and the EF 231 I will differ with the rest. IMHO, they are slightly different and will leak if mixed. The OF231 I believe would work.

I don't remember when the openings changed on the 231 - sometime in that time frame if memory serves. You can usually tell as they are taller than the 225s. MOST of the time I have gotten away with putting the proper exhaust gasket on - only a couple times I couldn't get them to work. This applied to both putting a 231 in place of a 225, and using 231 exhaust manifolds on 225s. I will say that 99% of the time they mix and match just fine.

Not if the 225 flywheel has a 'neutral' balance on it - to go from the T90 to T14 you need to swap the clutch disk and TO bearing for that to mate properly.
