By water lines, are you referring to the ones going to the heater core? My Jeep has no heater, so the lines are capped off at the pump. You can see the bottom of the line in one of the pics above, but it terminates right where it crosses behind the radiator hose.

As for the alternator bracket, i don’t know where they normally are positioned on a 198, but this one is nowhere near the fender well. Here’s a pic. Let me know if you want a different angle. And I can see if I can find any part numbers when I remove the old alternator to install the new one.

We may actually have the same bracket, as you mention a third hole that doesn’t exist on the block. Mine has three on the bracket and two on the engine block. The third bracket hole (uppermost driver side of the bracket), the PO inserted a bolt and two nuts to provide support against the engine block (bolt in the center of the second pic). Not sure if that’s the correct way to do it.

Yeah it looks like you have the same bracket. I think they are for the 225. Again the original is lower by the oil filter and that is where it would hit a typical jeep wheel well.

Yeah i too do not have a heater, but did not like the plugged off hoses. I searched and searched and finally found a better alternative plus was able to move the water temp sensor to the correct outlet too. Post pics if you like and i will look for mine. I know i made a post in the forum about too.

Here is how I hooked mine up. You can also see the front inlet where the brass fitting is that I will be installing the water temp sensor.

I got bored waiting for my new alternator to arrive, so last night I made a backup light switch and center console for the SM420 transmission.

I just took the Jeep for a spin with a full tank of gas, and there is some fuel leaking out at the fuel sender gasket. I have a new metal tank, new sender and new cork gasket. Not sure if I should tighten the sender more (didn’t want to strip the screws or deform anything), or if I am better off adding some sealant to the gasket, or something else entirely? Thoughts?

Put in new parts. If it still leaks then tighten or use sealant.

I tightened things down and will test it out tomorrow.

To update on the alternator situation, I received the alternator tonight and installed it. Ended up going with a tuff stuff one wire alternator, as I wasn’t confident my wiring was all correct and didn’t want to mess with the idiot light and resistor. The tuff stuff alternator seems super well built. It immediately put out 14.5v when the engine was warming up. Once down to idle speed, it continued to throw out 14.5v. Glad I got this issued fixed. Thanks to everyone for their help. Now on to the next issue... swapping the springs to try to minimize the massive driver side lean.
