Are the stock shackle bolts removable from the stock shackles? I went to tighten a couple on my dads 80 cj7 and they snapped right at the shackle. Thanks

I'd imagine. Otherwise I don't know how they'd come off.

Early Jeeps had shackles that were two-piece, where the bolts really weren't bolts but rather pins welded to one side of the shackle.

But on an '80, I'd sure think they would have been regular bolts.

    It's an "upgrade opportunity!" ;)

    nope ;)

all 76 and later CJs from the factory have the welded pins (studs) to the shackle plate, and overtightening will do what was described.
either replace with factory style parts, drill out the welds and install new bolts, or go aftermarket shackles

Well my dad said the heck with it and i just placed a order from 4wd for new heavy duty shackles and went ahead and got polyurethane bushings since they will be apart.

I also did get the bolt out today. I used a punch and hammer and it knocked right out.
