Custom Spare Tire Carrier

So I am planning on building a new spare tire carrier for my Jeep in place of the current one which is falling apart and rattles like crazy on the road. It will mount up on the body but I will do plenty of bracing and have enough areas carrying the weight so the body won’t break.


This is what I am basing it off of but mine will have a 4th point where the license plate is on this picture. I spoke to the guy and he said he is running a 40 inch tire with no problems. @ayjmyway on Instagram




Mine will mount up on the 4 plates already on the jeep from a rack that I had. I am also considering putting another attachment for it going to the rear crossmember for extra rigidity.


Is there any alternative to using the johnny joints on the pivots? They are pretty expensive for me.

I know I could just go and buy a bumper mounted one and toss it on there but I like the customizability and originality of building one myself.

Any input or ideas is welcome!
