Doubt I'll do a full top. At least not something off the shelf. I've left myself the option to add zippers and back/side windows on this one. It wouldn't be hard to do, but if I actually need the full top I have other vehicles I'd much rather be driving in that case

Nice work. Just so you know you mounted that spare the hard way. The tire pops on from the front. The tapered profile up to the back bead makes it very hard to pop over that way

 thanks. It wasn't that bad considering.

I've dealt with some tubeless bicycle tires that gave me a lot more trouble (and tore the skin off my thumbs) trying to get them seated. This was easy by comparison.

Added some hubcaps. I like the look. Not the correct Tux turbines which are all too rare to find and way too expensive when you do, but at least period correct!

Looking good! I ran with these AMC full hubcaps for a few years before I found a set of the Cutlass deluxe turbines found on the Tuxedo Parks. I removed the blue and red from the center.

    Those look nice!

I figured going with the red & gold centers at least put me in the right ballpark year-wise

Yes, and they look good too!
I have a few of the red/gold hubcaps from the different years for wall art.

The red/gold centers denote the Kaiser era Jeeps, and the red/blue were AMC. I think the hubscaps on nowhere's Tux came out around '68 or so on yhe Commando.

Well...I had been enjoying driving the Jeep around relatively problem free until a few weeks ago. Even got some new (radial) tires and everything. She was a pretty fun little commuter.

Then disaster struck. Coming home from work, heading down a hill towards a stoplight one of my front brake hoses blew. Some quick reaction speed kept me from plowing into the stopped car in front of me at about 30mph and I was able to swerve and coast into a grocery store parking lot and come to a rest against a parking berm. Luckily no damage except some soiled undies.

Well that was a last straw for me with a single reservoir brake system. Ordered Herm's kit, drove up to Washington to pick it up (luckily Herm's shop is only a 30 minute drive from me), and over the past few days i'm upgrading to dual reservoir and 11" front drums. My days of not stopping are no more.

Still need to plumb new brake lines and get the new drums installed up front, but the worst part of the job (getting the Master Cyl in place) is done. Installing that bracket with the engine and body in place was NOT a fun job at all. But I got it done with a fair amount of cursing.

It's as they say, if you don't swear you didn't do it correctly. Glad to hear you and the Jeep came out unscathed. I've had the same thing happen to me and it is zero fun

Yeah after working on my M38 I see why others recommend replacing all the brake lines. When I took my front rubber hoses off they were nearly swelled shut on the inside. That creates pressure and a ride like you had. Glad you are doing well and able to fix the problem. Be careful when you get good brakes. You will bruise your face on the windshield.

More progress on the brakes. New hardlines have been plumbed. Was a lot easier than I was expecting. Eastwood brake flaring tool made it super easy.

Once I had the hard lines run I got to work installing the 11" drums. Pretty straightforward.

Still waiting on a few parts. I ordered some 1.25" spacers so I can still fit the stock wheels with the new bigger drums (spare me any negative opinions on spacers, I've run them trouble free for years on other vehicles). I also ordered some new dust caps for the hubs, but other than that I'm basically ready to get this all bled and start buttoning things back up.

Did the early Tux's not have a three on the tree shifter and no hood badges?

Nope. Every mk3 I've seen looks like mine.
